Senate committee endorses Clinton's nomination

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted 16-1 to back Hillary Clinton's confirmation as secretary of State.

As expected, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has given its full-throated support to Hillary Clinton's nomination as secretary of State. The committee voted 16-1 in favor of Clinton Thursday morning.

The lone no vote came from Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), who had been the most critical voice during Clinton's confirmation hearing Tuesday. He had focused on potential conflicts of interest relating to Bill Clinton's foundation and post-presidential work. Other Republicans on the committee had raised similar questions, but they all voted in favor of Clinton anyway.

The full Senate will vote on confirmation after President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration.
